Metal Storm Inc - Last time I reviewed a game, I reviewed a faux-retro game while reviewing Tribute Games

Now we're looking at a truly retro game, recently released by Retro-Bit, a company once again known for their console clones and drivers for older systems.

Metal Storm Inc

When it was first released in North America in 1991, many NES fans believed it was a game.

Metal Storm Drain Markers, Septic Tank & Fuel Markers & Accessories

It's his biggest promo ever (he was even responsible for the cover and design on one of their issues when it was released). The game appears in one of the few NES game listings on gaming sites, and the original often sells for a premium on the second-hand market.

In the UK/Europe. It's the only game in Japan and North America, which adds to its status as the ideal game for many collectors.

The latest In 2019 Retro-Bit teamed up with the game's developer, Irem, to bring back the physical box in the form of a standard edition and a collectible book. I'll be looking at the latter, since I'm lucky enough to get CE for the price of a normal cert.

Gameplay: The gameplay of the game is like a lot of simple time games. It's about a technologically engineered Pluto, home to a nuclear weapon capable of destroying an entire solar system, called... "GigaDeath". So far, he's been protecting Earth, but as you'd expect, something has gone wrong and his last weapon: a giant laser cannon aimed at Earth, ready to destroy us all. That's where you come in: You play as a tiny bipedal mech called the "M308 Gunner," the most advanced weapon on Earth. You were sent to Pluto to destroy careers from within. As a gunner, you must pass six levels of two each to reach the laser cannon and activate its destruction mode.

Platform shooter, but with a unique game engine. In addition to moving, jumping and shooting (forward and upward), you can also do other things. Your mech can reverse gravity at will. This is the main reason the level design means you're constantly switching between normal and reverse gravity by pressing down and A or up and A. Not only do you have to use this ability to avoid accidents, but it's a factor of flying and fighting with some difficult areas that require you to jump or fight against gravity at specific times during flight. In short, some parts are hard!

.Any obstacle or enemy will explode directly with one hit. The game is not very difficult, at least at first, and most level players can pass the first three or four levels without any problems, but the last few levels are very difficult. It would be helpful if there are some useful resources to help you in your search. Holding an "A" gives you a weapon that gives you more than you can spend in your lifetime.

Style. "B" shooting gives you extra bonus points, T gives you 100 seconds of extra time (yes, you can run out of time) "C" is a smart bomb that also destroys all enemies in the defense.

There are 3 new items that improve the gunner's abilities for a limited time. "S" is a shield that blocks light attacks but passes through heavy projectiles. "P" gives your gun increased damage and can go places. My favorite is "G", who shoots flames from the gunner every time he uses his gravity flip ability. This is very useful when you're up against a large group of enemies that can hop or hop on the ceiling, waiting for you to misjudge or jump on a gravity-assisted jump. stupid people.

Speaking of some jumps and crashes in the final stages, it's really good. You have to do some real quick thinking with the gravity controls. Remember, your gravity swap cannot be used again during flight until the Heavy has landed. This means you have to keep in mind how far you can go and where you can reach the ceiling/floor, and cover as much of that distance as possible before gravity affects it.

The boss battles in this game are fun. They're carefully designed and use changes in gravity as levels to deal with the movement of multiple bosses, and it takes planning and trial and error to figure out how to use gravity to defeat them. Great to share something with new reviewers

The belt manager's warning flashes on the screen when you're fully in control amidst the siren.

The graphics aren't as good-looking as those of many of the better NES games, but when the sprites move, they have a nice animation and undeniable fun. The bosses look good, and I think the designers put all their energy into how these things look and the combat itself. talk about enemies, walls

, veterans of the developer will be delighted to make a cameo in Phase 6. Check out one of the giant battleships running like a flame from the past, thank you we won't fight this time.

The weakest point of the country mile. The music is useful but certainly not forgettable, the sound effects are perfect, and they have a fun 8-bit feel that retro lovers will feel right at home.

A beautiful indie game in the pantheon of action platformers. Not exactly if you're looking for a good, hard game, but it's generally hard. Be careful though: the final stage is not easy and will drain you as much as your reflexes. No wonder it has become an ancient religion.

Since this is a review of the game and the items in the collector's pack, I'll give them a separate rating.

Metal Storm Collector's Edition (nes)

Differences: It's also important to note that some changes have been made before moving on to the contents of this release.

In the West. The two versions have slightly different enemy locations and graphics, and the western version omits the story feature. This 2019 edition brings them back, with a great opening sequence and some of the best animation of the season. The Japanese effect brought back here is pretty dark considering when it was made. So the western version has been changed to have the same characters to create a very happy story ending.

Growing up as an NES fan, I can tell you that there are still games worth £50, while most games stay around £30 and £40 after they've been around for a while. . At that time, I knew that the price in the store was very low. Do I need to clear the inventory? It was always nice to get a game for £10-£25 back in the 90s. This version has an RRP of around £49.99 in the UK, but I got it for £39.99 in the Amazon sale. Same price as regular version (automatic, boxed and manual only). I got the translucent blue box type (black, silver and the standard NES gray are also available depending on where you buy it). The box itself is made of very strong particleboard, similar to the outer boxes on Blu-ray boxes, but more durable than most.

Washes and reveals the good stuff inside. The NES console is beautiful. Not only is it made of better quality card than the old box, but it also features original American cover art with silver embossing on the cover and the logo on the spine. . This is the best NES box I've ever seen.

Flipping through the manual is a joy, and it makes me miss the days of reading a manual before playing a game, as much as playing the game itself. It's full of beautiful graphics and enemy/power-up descriptions, and is made on really nice high-quality paper. The certificate of authenticity is the same as Artcards, so I won’t say much.

Posters and graphics from the Famicom are a great addition.
